It returns to Buxton with three brand-new productions of all-time favourites\, The Mikado\, The Yeomen of the Guard\, The Pirates of Penzance and the acclaimed\, The Best of Gilbert & Sullivan Concert.\nThe Yeomen of the Guard is set in the Tower of London and is the most emotionally engaging of the G&S canon combining tragedy and despair with W S Gilbert’s sharp wit and satire. Colonel Fairfax is doomed to execution on a false charge of sorcery.  To avoid leaving his estate to his cousin and accuser\, he secretly marries a strolling player Elsie Maynard. Jack Point also loves Elsie but agrees to the marriage knowing his rival will be dead within hours. But Fairfax escapes\, and chaos ensues. \nGenerally considered to be Sullivan’s finest score\, this brand-new production of The Yeomen of the Guard is directed by Simon Butteriss who also stars as heartbroken Jack Point.

DESCRIPTION:Soprano soloist with Guinness Choir –\nMozart’s Requiem and Mozart Mass in C Minor\n\n\nOn Saturday 1st April 2023 The Guinness Choir and Orchestra will perform Mozart’s Requiem and his Mass in C Minor in St. Patrick’s Cathedral\, Dublin 2 at 7.30p.m. \nConducted by Ciarán Kelly with soloists Kelli-Ann Masterson\, Soprano\, Megan O’Neill\, Soprano\, Leanne Fitzgerald\, Alto\, Andrew Gavin\, Tenor\, and Rory Dunne\, Bass. \nThis is a rare opportunity to experience and enjoy Mozart’s two great masterpieces in one concert. \nThe Requiem was Mozart’s final work\, composed in the short period before his death in December 1791. He was only 35. Though completed by others in his circle\, Mozart\, as with the Mass in C Minor\, which he had mostly written by the mid 1780s\, captures the drama and visceral emotion of the liturgy. \nThough much scholarly debate continues as to who completed the pieces\, there is no escaping the magnificence and virtuosic demands of both\, such that generations of artists have been inspired by these great masterpieces ever since. Don’t miss the dramatic and hopeful beauty that this opportunity presents. \nSpeaking about the concert Ciarán Kelly\, Music Director of The Guinness Choir\, said: \n“The Requiem was one of the first large-scale pieces I ever learned and performed\, and it remains my favourite choral work to this day. The mystery around these works only adds to the excitement we feel when we hear and perform them. All composed and performed under the shadow of Covid-19.\n\n\n\nThe subjects range from Beethoven’s letters about his laundry\, food and servant problems to a marine biologist meditating “on the enigmatic figure of Libris Solar\, an alchemical blend of human\, non-human and neoprene”. \nThe biggest single-event commissioning project in Irish musical history features works by Gerald Barry\, Éna Brennan\, Irene Buckley\, Linda Buckley\, Robert Coleman\, David Coonan\, Alex Dowling\, Peter Fahey\, Michael Gallen\, Andrew Hamilton\, Jenn Kirby\, Conor Linehan\, Conor Mitchell\, Gráinne Mulvey\, Emma O’Halloran\, Hannah Peel\, Karen Power\, Evangelia Rigaki\, Benedict Schlepper-Connolly and Jennifer Walshe. All shot in Dublin’s Gaiety Theatre with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra under conductors Elaine Kelly and Fergus Sheil and a team of directors and designers under series director Hugh O’Conor. \nAnd all streamed to the world for free from Thursday 17 December. \nPRESENTED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE RTÉ CONCERT ORCHESTRA
