SUMMARY:Meet and Greet with Opera Voice Tours
DESCRIPTION:Ireland’s Blackwater Valley Opera Festival has been likened to Glyndebourne. While this is an understandable comparison\, it is unfair to both festivals. They are equally unique\, and for many\, the venue of Lismore Castle in the scenic Blackwater Valley is far superior\, and what it lacks in scale\, it more than makes up for in intimacy and variety. \n\nOpera Voice Tours is offering you a two-night stay in a 5-star luxury hotel with the opportunity to attend two operas and an afternoon concert\, a chance to dine in the castle grounds\, and the possibility of meeting and talking to two of the principal singers. \n \nAll your travel while in Ireland will be taken care of\, which includes return transport from Cork airport or Cork train station to the hotel and return transport between the hotel and the festival. All meals are included in the price\, apart from the first evening\, owing to the many dining options available. However\, they can easily be ordered on arrival.    \n \nPlease note that places are restricted to ensure that we can offer you individual attention and that the meetings with the singers have a degree of personal contact. \n\n\nFriday 31st May \n18:30: Meet Soprano Kelli-Ann Masterson \nYou can read more about Kelli-Ann on her website at: www.kelliannmasterson.com \n\n \n

Commissioned by The Musical Society\, London\, for St Cecilia’s Day 1683\, it is a lively piece that exudes youthfulness and artistic camaraderie. A chamber oratorio\, Caecilia Virgo et Martyr showcases Charpentier’s ability to exquisitely convey drama and emotion through music. In contrast\, Charpentier’s profound spiritual sensitivity is evident in the solemn Litanies de la Vierge\, which employs intricate polyphony to evoke reverence and reflection. Brought to life by Sestina Music’s talented singers\, Next Generation Mentoring Programme participants and their band of authentic period instrumentalists\, each piece reveals a distinct facet of Baroque music demonstrating the era’s richness and the depth of the composer’s creativity in captivating and enthralling ways.

SUMMARY:The Yeomen of The Guard
DESCRIPTION:National Gilbert & Sullivan Opera Company \nThe Yeomen of The Guard\nwith the National Festival Orchestra conducted by Murray Hipkin\nSun 30 Jul – Sat 12 Aug 2023\nBuxton Opera House \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe National Gilbert & Sullivan Opera Company is the G&S Festival’s resident professional company. It returns to Buxton with three brand-new productions of all-time favourites\, The Mikado\, The Yeomen of the Guard\, The Pirates of Penzance and the acclaimed\, The Best of Gilbert & Sullivan Concert.\nThe Yeomen of the Guard is set in the Tower of London and is the most emotionally engaging of the G&S canon combining tragedy and despair with W S Gilbert’s sharp wit and satire. Colonel Fairfax is doomed to execution on a false charge of sorcery.  To avoid leaving his estate to his cousin and accuser\, he secretly marries a strolling player Elsie Maynard. Jack Point also loves Elsie but agrees to the marriage knowing his rival will be dead within hours. But Fairfax escapes\, and chaos ensues. \nGenerally considered to be Sullivan’s finest score\, this brand-new production of The Yeomen of the Guard is directed by Simon Butteriss who also stars as heartbroken Jack Point.

SUMMARY:Mozart Requiem and Mass in C Minor
DESCRIPTION:Soprano soloist with Guinness Choir –\nMozart’s Requiem and Mozart Mass in C Minor\n\n\nOn Saturday 1st April 2023 The Guinness Choir and Orchestra will perform Mozart’s Requiem and his Mass in C Minor in St. Patrick’s Cathedral\, Dublin 2 at 7.30p.m. \nConducted by Ciarán Kelly with soloists Kelli-Ann Masterson\, Soprano\, Megan O’Neill\, Soprano\, Leanne Fitzgerald\, Alto\, Andrew Gavin\, Tenor\, and Rory Dunne\, Bass. \nThis is a rare opportunity to experience and enjoy Mozart’s two great masterpieces in one concert. \nThe Requiem was Mozart’s final work\, composed in the short period before his death in December 1791. He was only 35. Though completed by others in his circle\, Mozart\, as with the Mass in C Minor\, which he had mostly written by the mid 1780s\, captures the drama and visceral emotion of the liturgy. \nThough much scholarly debate continues as to who completed the pieces\, there is no escaping the magnificence and virtuosic demands of both\, such that generations of artists have been inspired by these great masterpieces ever since. Don’t miss the dramatic and hopeful beauty that this opportunity presents. \nSpeaking about the concert Ciarán Kelly\, Music Director of The Guinness Choir\, said: \n“The Requiem was one of the first large-scale pieces I ever learned and performed\, and it remains my favourite choral work to this day. The mystery around these works only adds to the excitement we feel when we hear and perform them. The ways in which Mozart takes us on a journey\, musically\, spiritually and dramatically are\, in my opinion\, unique to this masterful composer.” \nThe Guinness choir and its professional Orchestra will be joined by our wonderful soloists \nKelli-Ann Masterson\, Soprano; Megan O’Neill\, Soprano; Leanne Fitzgerald\, Alto; Andrew Gavin\, Tenor and Rory Dunne\, Bass. \nTickets (inc booking fee): €30 Premium and €25. SUMMARY:Don Pasquale
DESCRIPTION:Kelli-Ann Masterson will perform the role of Norina in INO’s  nationwide tour of Don Pasquale.  \nDonizetti’s effervescent comic masterpiece is a witty\, high-spirited\, inter-generational tug of war about love and money — young love and old money\, whipped up by lots of deceit. \n\n\n\nDon Pasquale\, a grumpy old bachelor. Ernesto\, his good-looking young heir. And Norina\, an attractive young widow. This unorthodox love triangle yields a hilarious and touching masterpiece that takes a riotously entertaining slant on a threat of disinheritance\, a mock marriage\, and a spendthrift wife who believes husbands should be seen and not heard. Donizetti’s most sparkling operatic comedy. \nSung in Italian with English subtitles. \nRunning time: 2 hours and 20 minutes with 1 interval. \nJoin the conversation #INODonPasquale \n\n\n\n\n“This opera is fun! SUMMARY:Orfeo ed Euridice
DESCRIPTION:Book opera tickets for 2022 at Blackwater Valley Opera Festival. Ireland’s Summer Opera Festival returns with Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice – conducted by Peter Whelan and directed by David Bolger\, from 31 May – 6 June in Lismore\, Co. Waterford. We are excited to announce that this year’s opera production will feature artistic collaborations with the acclaimed Irish Baroque Orchestra and award-winning CoisCéim Dance Theatre. \nFour evening performances of this year’s opera – our headline festival event\, will take place at Lismore Castle\, with a special Dress Rehearsal for Schools performance on Tuesday 31st May at 8pm. \nOrfeo ed Euridice began Gluck’s revolution in music as his score moved the focus from virtuosic performance to music that reflected the depth of emotion and drama seen on stage. De’Calzabigi’s libretto uses the Greek myth as Orfeo embarks on a journey to rescue his deceased wife\, Euridice\, from the underworld\, however all is not so simple. The Gods\, via Amor\, make this no easy task. Orfeo must not gaze upon Euridice or explain to her the reason why while on their journey out of the underworld\, for if he does\, she will be lost to him forever. \nThe role of Amor will be performed by Kelli-Ann Masterson. \n\n
